Backyard Games

A backyard is most commonly used to play outdoor games in especially when there are children who are growing up. When they are young they may just like to run around in the backyard or ride their tricycles and bikes in the backyard but as they start to get older they will get into sports and soon the backyard will become a baseball field or a cricket ground or a basketball court. It all depends on the sports that the children are into as its mostly children who decide what are the games that they like to play and which games can be played in the backyard. During a world cup football season in countries where football has fanatical followers backyard football games are played and neighborhood teams are formed. The same is in countries where people are cricket fanatics especially in the subcontinent and the Caribbean’s backyard cricket games are common place. In England elder people like organizing croquet games on Sundays in their backyards.

Wherever one is living and whatever popular games are played there, they will find their way into the backyards of people who love sports and like to get some exercise daily. Backyard basketball games or backyard baseball games are played in quite a few homes in USA. In colder countries, the swimming pool is used as a skating rink during winters and for swimming competitions or water sports in summers.

When children are playing backyard games like cricket, football, baseball and basketball they can become very competitive and as these are team games there is going to be a lot of shouting and noise going on which can upset some neighbors. Kids who are into skateboarding and skateboard everywhere will also compete in backyard skateboarding competitions.

All outdoor games can be played in the backyard and big backyard games will be played if the backyard is big enough for that. A proper baseball diamond or a basketball field may be built in the backyard depending on how much the people who own the backyard love these games. All sports goods stores and most department stores have a sports goods section and one can easily find the equipment required for any outdoor sports in them. Some people ask “does Wal-Mart sell backyard games”. All department stores have a sports good section which is quite well stocked and one can easily get the sports goods that are required for most games in them. There are no particular games that are limited to the backyard and games are adapted to be played in the backyard. Like one does not need a football field or a cricket pitch or a hockey field to have a game. The backyard is adapted for the game.

Backyard games are a good way to get exercise and it becomes a family event in which the neighbors may also join in. Backyard games give people a chance to exercise as well to relax. One does not have to go to a gym or a playing field for exercise as the backyard is there and can be used to play games in. Neighborhood teams and neighborhood games competitions take place and children will even coax the parents into joining in and soon it becomes a habit that people look forward too. Backyard games are a healthy way of burning off excess calories and keeping one’s self in shape. Also they create a nice and easy going atmosphere and friendships also develop. People do remember their childhood and the games that they used to play in the backyard and some people have gone on to become professionals in the sports that they started playing in their backyards.
